Why LaTeX manuscripts need specialized checking
LaTeX is the standard typesetting system for mathematics, physics, computer science, and engineering. While LaTeX handles formatting automatically, it doesn't validate your manuscript's content structure, citation completeness, or journal compliance. Common LaTeX-specific issues include BibTeX entries that compile but contain incomplete fields, missing required sections that aren't flagged by the compiler, and formatting that doesn't match the target journal's template. CheckMyManuscript accepts LaTeX files natively—upload your .tex file, a ZIP/GZ archive with all source files, or a compiled PDF. No conversion to Word required.
LaTeX-specific checks
Native LaTeX processing
Upload .tex files, ZIP archives, or compiled PDFs directly—no conversion to Word needed.
BibTeX reference validation
Check that all \cite commands have matching BibTeX entries and that entries include required fields.
Section structure
Validate that all required sections are present regardless of the LaTeX template used.
Abstract completeness
Check abstract content even when defined in \begin{abstract} environments.
Metadata validation
Verify author information, affiliations, and keywords defined in LaTeX commands.
Journal template compliance
Flag formatting inconsistencies with common journal templates (IEEE, ACM, Springer, Elsevier).

Part of our 80+ automated checks
BibTeX completeness
All bibliography entries have required fields (year, title, journal, DOI).
Citation matching
Every \cite{} command has a corresponding .bib entry.
Section structure
Required sections present in the manuscript.
Abstract elements
Abstract contains all five expected components.
Author metadata
Author names, affiliations, and contact info complete.
The practical edge your peers already use
Across disciplines and career stages, researchers reduce bottlenecks and submit with confidence: clearer drafts, easier guideline compliance, and less back and forth with co‑authors and reviewers.
I use it to review my students' papers. It instantly highlights typos, missing references, and unclear sections, helping me focus my feedback on the quality of the research instead of surface errors.
Ilyass
Professor in Mechanical Engineering, ÉTS Montréal
I relied on it throughout my thesis to strengthen my writing. It suggested clearer phrasing, improved flow between sections, and ensured my references were complete before the final deadline.
Manon
Master's Student in Speech Therapy
I write research in both Portuguese and English, and it adapts perfectly to either language. It provided precise feedback in Portuguese, helping me maintain academic tone and consistency across my drafts.
Afonso
PhD Candidate, UFPE
It gave excellent advice on how to rephrase and present ideas more clearly and concisely. The suggestions helped me refine my arguments and make my research more impactful.
Félix
Postdoc Researcher, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology
A round of suggestions helped to generally refine the text of my paper and, moreover, to present some of its key points in a more focused form.

Professor, Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University

Frequently asked questions
You can upload a single .tex file, a ZIP or GZ archive containing your .tex and .bib files, or a compiled PDF. For the most complete check, upload the archive with all source files so we can validate BibTeX entries.
No. You can upload raw .tex files or source archives. Our system processes LaTeX natively. However, if you prefer, uploading the compiled PDF also works for all non-BibTeX checks.
We process standard LaTeX commands and common packages. Custom macros defined in your preamble are recognized in context. For highly specialized templates, uploading the compiled PDF ensures all content is analyzed.
LaTeX compilers check syntax, not content. They won't tell you if your abstract is missing a methods statement, if your ethics declaration is absent, or if your reference list has entries with incomplete fields. CheckMyManuscript checks what compilers can't.
