Citation Style: Finding the Right One

Taylor & Francis journals do not use a single citation format. Citation style is determined by the journal and its discipline:

• Chicago author-date — many humanities journals
• Vancouver — clinical and health sciences journals
• AMA — some medical journals
• NLM/Harvard — varies by journal family

The most common mistake among T&F submitters is using a citation style from a previous submission to a different T&F journal. Ethics and Declaration Requirements

Open Access at Taylor & Francis

Taylor & Francis publishes both subscription and open-access journals. For subscription journals, T&F Open Select provides a hybrid option where authors pay an article processing charge (APC) for immediate open access after acceptance. Fully open-access Taylor & Francis journals are published under Creative Commons licenses and require APC payment at acceptance.

If your funder mandates open access (UKRI, Wellcome Trust, ERC, NIH), you must comply with your funder's OA policy. T&F participates in Read & Publish agreements with many universities — check whether your institution has an agreement that covers your APC before submission.

File and Format Requirements

T&F submissions via ScholarOne Manuscripts or Editorial Manager require specific file formatting. Figures should be submitted as separate high-resolution files (300 dpi minimum for halftones, 600–1200 dpi for line art). A running head (short title ≤50 characters) is required and is frequently missing from manuscripts reformatted from other publishers.
